Law Awards of Scotland 2004

The first Law Awards of Scotland was held on September 2nd. Around 500 guests heard an address from Helena Kennedy QC where she touched on themes outlined in her new book Just Law.
She told the audience how she saw the Law Awards of Scotland as the Oscars for the profession and why it was appropriate at such a celebration that the key role law plays in society as a whole is remembered.
It is the profession that brings rationality to even the most emotionally charged issues and ensures that the rule of law is applied to Governments as well as ordinary individuals, she said.
After the address emcee Dougie Donnelly announced the winners of the awards themselves. Full coverage of the event will appear in a special October issue of The Firm.
