On Thursday 19th June, Axiom Advocates hosted the final lecture of this term in their Third Thursday Lecture series at the Mackenzie Building, Old Assembly Close, High Street, Edinburgh.

Chaired by Iain Ferguson QC, the lecture focused on current topics in Commercial Law. The speakers were Heriot Currie QC, Jonathan Lake and Roisin Higgins. 

Currie gave a talk entitled “Recovering losses sustained by another”. Heriot explored how to use an assignation or other means to ensure that losses do not fall into a legal “black hole”. He also explained the technical requirements of such an assignation.

Jonathan Lake followed with a talk entitled “Review of the law and practice relating to interim orders”. Obtaining an interim order for a client, or having one made against your client, can make a big difference to the course of a litigation. This talk reviewed the law which determines whether orders are available and whether they should be granted. It also considered the practical aspects of seeking – or seeking to resist - an order.

The final speaker, Roisin Higgins, gave a talk entitled “Breach of Confidence and Privacy”. This talk reviewed recent UK developments in the area of breach of confidence and privacy, and consider the effect of Article 8 ECHR on the evolution of this branch of the law.
